This was a four page backup story in thie issue of Our Army At War. Most would consider this an Easter story and they would be correct. However, it is also a Christmas story. After all Christmas has no meaning without Easter and Easter has no meaning without Christmas. These holidays are connected to each other for all time.

Today I am showcasing two versions of A Christmas Carol. First is by Classics Illustrated. Of course it is the one company that you expect to put out a version of this classic tale. Second the unexpected company is Marvel.

For a couple of times since I have been reading comic books Marvel has tried to do what Classics Illiustrated did by turning classic literature into comic books. There best attempt was in the 70's and this version of A Christmas Carol is from that era.

The signed photo I bought from an autograph dealer. At that time it was only signed by Micky, Peter and Mike and came with a certificate of authenticy. Davy signed it for me in person after a concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. The book that was signed by Micky was gotten for me by afriend and given to me as a Christmas gift years ago. It pains me to have to sell them but I need the money more. So if you donate $300 I will send you all of these if you are the first person to donate and e-mail me that you donated it and give me your address. Don't Be Like Dewey

Recently I heard that the former manager of WHKK, Dan Hubbard, passed away in April of 2010. I didn’t know him well but from the little that I did know he was a very good man. For those of you who don’t know WHKK was a local Christian radio where I and many of my friends hung out and had part time jobs from time to time. For a while they played Southern Gospel music. When I worked there they played Contemporary Christian Music. Lately I find myself listening to some of the old songs that I played there. I have many wonderful memories of some good times there. But like all good memories there is always a sad memory associated with it.
Everyone I every worked with there was just wonderful. One of them I always felt sorry for. His name was Dewey. Now Dewey was a good man and, while I didn’t know it when I met him, he was a very smart man. For some reason he could only work cleaning offices but I later was told that he had a law degree and had a lot of law books. Why do I feel sorry for him? Because this smart man who cleaned the offices at a Christian radio station was…an Atheist. Dewey refused to believe in God. A lot of us tried to talk to him about God but I don’t think any of us ever got through to him. He would put road blocks up to every avenue that the Holy Spirit could get access to him. Only one did I ever see get close, the news director Jeff Eldridge. The more they talked Dewey started to stutter. After he left Jeff said there must be something that caused him to not believe. Dewey was there for years. He heard the music singing praises to the Lord and the sermons from the preachers telling how and why you should be saved. He seemed to pay little attention to them.
A few years later a company bought the trailer park where Dewey lived. Everyone was evicted so they could build a strip mall. Dewey had no place to go. In his depressed state of mind I heard that Dewey went to a bridge that spanned the Ohio River and threw himself into the river. His body was never found.
Dewey lost hope. No place to live and no hope of getting to Heaven because he didn’t accept God into his heart. He heard the Word almost everyday for years and will have to pay for that when he is judged before the God that he always denied. I feel sorry that one day he will be in Hell. He was a good and smart man but that alone won’t get you into Heaven.
If you are reading this please don’t be like Dewey. You may be a good and smart person but please accept Christ into your heart. Just pray to Him to let Him know that you know Jesus Christ died for you and you want to have him in your heart and He will come. But He won’t until you invite him in.

Will the Earth see the Antichrist as a superhero?

Ok I have and probably always will like superhero comic books, but thanks to how popular they have become at the movies it has caused me to wonder something. Could they be helping to pave the way toward the coming of the Anti-Christ? After all they can do some amazing things with their superpowers. According to the book of Revelation the Anti-Christ or the Beast as some of them call him will have some amazing powers given him from Satan. We all know that Satan has always been trying to replace God so he always tries to imitate him. He makes at statue of himself and causes it to come to life and speak.
Revelation 13:15 KJV
15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

His number one follower seems to have even greater power, espically when he is near the Anti-Christ. He brings the Beast back to life from a deadly wound and calls fire from the sky.

And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

So it wouldn't be hard to believe if you aren't a Christian that you have got God or a superhero as your world leader. But he is neither. He is Satan and don't follow him no matter what he or his followers say or do. The best way is to accept Christ now as your Saviour. Then you won't even be here to live through his evilness.
He is not God or Christ or even Superman, Spider-man or Green Lantern. He will be more like Lex Luthor, the Green Goblin or Sinestro. More like Sinestro since he was a Green Lantern who later became power mad and tries to destroy the Green Lantern Corp.

Peanuts Big Adventure

Here is a story that I wrote about a little dog of mine that passed away abut 10 years ago. It's based on an event that did happen to her. It's a children's story with a Christian message. I would love to make it a book but it needs pictures and I can't draw. So if you are an artist and interested let me know and maybe we can work something out. Now here is the story that I call...

PEANUTS BIG ADVENTURE
There once was a dog named Peanuts. Peanuts was a little Yorkie dog. She lived with her Master high on a hill. Below the hill was a great and busy highway. Cars drove by very fast. There were so many that a great noise would rise up and sometimes you could hear it at the top of the hill. But Peanuts paid no attention to it. She was happy on the hill with her Master. There she would run and play in his yard. He would toss a bone or a ball and she would fetch it and bring it back to him. Then one day, when her Master was gone, Peanuts got bored. She heard the noise from the street and decided to look and see where the noise came from. She walked from her Master’s home and down the hill through his big yard. As she followed the noise it got louder and louder but then it started to get go away. Soon she realized she was going in circles and was lost. What would she do? How can she get back to her Master’s home?
She looked down and saw a worm crawling out of his hole. “I’m lost.” Peanuts told the worm. “I followed this noise from my Master’s home and now can’t find my way back.” “Don’t worry.” Said the worm. “Just stay in one place. That way he can find you.” Then the worm crawled away. Peanuts thought that made sense and stayed there a long time. Soon Peanuts realized that staying in one place wasn’t getting her back to her Master and she was still lost. So Peanuts started walking again. Soon she met a spider. “I’m lost.” Peanuts told the spider. “I followed this noise from my Master’s home and now can’t find my way back to where I was happy.” “You don’t need to worry about the noise and you can be happy without being in your Master’s house.” Said the spider. “Just look inside yourself and you will find all the happiness that you need.” Then the spider went away. Peanuts thought about what the spider said and thought about how she felt. Sometimes it did make her feel better but she was still in the middle of this big yard and lost. So Peanuts continued her search for her Master and his house.
Soon Peanuts saw a snake. She had never seen a snake before. He looked very wise and concerned as he approached her. “I’m lost.” Peanuts told the snake. “I followed this noise from my Master’s home and now can’t find my way back.” “Well,” said the snake, “if following the noise got you here, then all you have to do is follow it back.” “That sounds good but I never did get close enough to see where the noise was.” “Perhaps you just crossed over it and because you were so concerned and turned around while looking for your Master’s home you didn’t realize you had been near it.” “Maybe.” Said Peanuts. “I’ll try and follow it back.” The snake smiled at Peanuts and crawled away.
As Peanuts followed the noise and went in a straight line instead of walking in circles, it got louder and louder. Peanuts kept wondering how she could have crossed over the noise and not known it. Suddenly Peanuts met a little mouse. “Hello Mr. Mouse. I’m following that noise back to my Master’s house.” “Well if your Master lives beyond that noise you won’t make it back. I was just there. It belongs to a great highway that is so busy you will never cross it and live.” Then the mouse ran away. Just then Peanuts knew that the snake lied to her. Now what will she do to find her Master? Just then a white dove landed next to Peanuts. “I’m lost.” Peanuts told the Dove. “I followed this noise from my Master’s home and now can’t find my way back.” “Don’t follow the noise.” Said the dove. “It’s a terrible place. You don’t want to go there.” “But how will I find my way back to my Master’s house?” “Just be still and listen.” Said the dove. “I’m sure your Master is back and already looking for you.”
So Peanuts closed her eyes and listened. Suddenly she heard a small voice. “Peanuts!” cried the voice. It was her Master’s voice. Peanuts started walking in the direction she thought the voice was coming from. “Peanuts!” cried her Master. With every step it got louder and louder. Peanuts walked faster and faster. “Peanuts! Where are you?” Cried her Master. “I’m here Master and I’m coming.” Peanuts thought to herself. By this time Peanuts was running. Soon she poked her head through some thick grass. As she looked up she saw her Master’s house not far away. In front of the house was her Master still shouting her name.
Peanuts bolted out of the grass and ran toward her Master. As he turned to see her coming her Master smiled and had both of his arms outstretched to greet her. Peanuts leaped into his arms. Her Master pulled her close and hugged her. Peanuts was happy as she licked her Master’s face. She was happy to be home and never wanted to be lost again.

I have an old College friend, Randy Wallace, who is the Pastor at Oak Ridge Baptist. Most of his life Randy liked to write and record his own music. I ran into him the other day and he told me that he is still doing it and his most recent album is Bringer of Light. Well I have listened to it and it is great. The music is positive adn uplifiting just like Randy himself. The cover is seen above in the screen capture. I just heard that Season 1 of Dennis the Menace is going to be produced by Shout Factory. This is one of my favorite series from my childhood. Even though I liked the most beloved TV show Leave it to Beaver, it is Dennis the menace that was my favorite between the two. I found these pictures while surfing the net. I loved them both but being this is the Christmas season I had to put the more Christmas looking one up top. If any pictures are used in the DVD set I think the color one will be in it but I doubt it will be the black and white one. I like how you see an old fashioned church in the background. With many trying to take Christ out of the Christmas season when we celebrat His birth it made me feel good to remember a time when we did our best to keep Him in it and attend Christmas Eve services. There is no cover available yet But I read that there will be extras included.

HEAVEN AND HELL

While walking down the street one day, a Senator was tragically hit by a car and died. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you." "No problem, just let me in," says the Senator..

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator. "I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.

They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. "Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell..

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?" The devil smiles at him and says,

"Yesterday we were campaigning ...

Today, you voted."

Another Kind of Wealth

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad."

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh yeah, " said the son.

"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.

We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.

Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."

Here is a letter to the President that is from a Dr. who is the friend of a friend of mine. It is worth reading to see that the crisis our nation faces isn't health care but really a culture clash.

Dear Mr. President:
During my shift in the Emergency Room last night, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient whose smile revealed an expensive shiny gold tooth, whose body was adorned with a wide assortment of elaborate and costly tattoos, who wore a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and who chatted on a new cellular telephone equipped with a popular R&B ringtone.

While glancing over her patient chart, I happened to notice that her payer status was listed as "Medicaid"! During my examination of her, the patient informed me that she smokes more than one pack of cigarettes every day, eats only at fast-food take-outs, and somehow still has money to buy pretzels and beer. And, you and our Congress expect me to pay for this woman's health care? I contend that our nation's "health care crisis" is not the result of a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. Rather, it is the result of a "crisis of culture" a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on luxuries and vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture based in the irresponsible credo that "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me". Once you fix this "culture crisis" that rewards irresponsibility and dependency, you'll be amazed at how quickly our nation's health care difficulties will disappear.

I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a
woman cried out to Me for help. 'I have been
knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!' I said.
'Of course I will show you the way home - only
believe in Me now.'

I was at the base of the building with the Priest
ministering to the injured and devastated souls.
I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He
heard my voice and answered.

I was on all four of those planes, in every seat,
with every prayer. I was with the crew as they
were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the
believers there, comforting and assuring them that their
faith has saved them.

I was in Texas , Virginia , California , Michigan , Afghanistan .
I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news.
Did you sense Me?

I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew
every name - though not all know Me. Some met Me
for the first time on the 86th floor.

Some sought Me with their last breath.
Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the
smoke and flames; 'Come to Me... this way... take
my hand.' Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me.
But, I was there.

I did not place you in the Tower that day. You
may not know why, but I do.. However, if you were
there in that explosive moment in time, would you have
reached for Me?

Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey
for you . But someday your journey will end. And I
will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may
be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are
'ready to go.'

I remember when local programming was more then just the news. During the day and some evenings even local stations had their own stable of talent they could build shows around. They had talk shows, variety shows and those who would host movies. In Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky the Nick Clooney Show was a local variety show that was first on WCPO and later WKRC. Years after it was canceled the Mr. Clooney would be back on at WKRC as a news anchor. On his variety show he had talents like Len Mink. He was a local singer who was very popular. 5. Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love ,
whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8.Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips.
Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people that you love them, at every opportunity.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER : Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Archie's Something Else!

I may not like the new direction that Archie comics is taking but I still have a soft spot in my heart for the old Archie series. Here is one of the Christian comic books that Archie comics gave the ok on for Al Hartley to produce back in the 1970's. If they were any bigger they would qualify as graphic novels. Well it finally happened. Archie comics, that bastion of wholesomeness in the comic book industry, will debut their first gay character this year. Yes I know that Marvel and DC also have them but they are minor characters so they aren't in that many books and easy to avoid if you wish and I do wish to do that. But it is even more shocking to have it done at Archie comics. These books appeal to people of all ages. While the superhero the Question, who DC comics has made a lesbian, is not in every DC book but I am afraid that the new character at Archie may be in every book. I mean when was the last time you read an Archie book and didn't see one of the Archie gang have at least a minor role? The Bible says that the world would embrace the gay lifestyle more in the end days and that is what is happening.
When I was younger cartoonest Al Hartley got the rights to use the Archie characters in his Christian comic books. I read that he said he was worried that he couldn't get the owners permission as they were Jewish. But after he prayed about it and met with them they gave their ok. Got answered his prayer and I ask that we all pray that those in charge at Archie and the other comic book companies change thier minds on gays in comics. To prove my point I am not going to buy any new Archie comics. I am not calling for a boycott nationally. I am just doing it personally. We have seen that when you get attention nationally by boycotting something it usually has the opposite effect. But I do ask that you pray everyday that the comic book companies change their minds.
By the way the story is that the new boy in town is so good looking that Veronica wants to dump Archie for him. He come out when he talks to, of all characters, Jughead when he says nothing will happen as he is gay. Just thought you would want to know that.

THE EMPTY EGG

Jeremy was born with a twisted body and a slow mind. At the age of 12 he was
still in second grade, seemingly unable to learn. His teacher, Doris Miller,
often became exasperated with him. He would squirm in his seat, drool, and
make grunting noises. At other times, he spoke clearly and distinctly, as if
a spot of light had penetrated the darkness of his brain. Most of the time,
however, Jeremy just irritated his teacher.

One day she called his parents and asked them to come in for a consultation.
As the Forresters entered the empty classroom, Doris said to them, "Jeremy
really belongs in a special school. It isn't fair to him to be with younger
children who don't have learning problems. Why, there is a five year gap
between his age and that of the other students."

Mrs. Forrester cried softly into a tissue, while her husband spoke. "Miss
Miller," he said, "there is no school of that kind nearby. It would be a
terrible shock for Jeremy if we had to take him out of this school. We know
he really likes it here." Doris sat for a long time after they had left,
staring at the snow outside the window. Its coldness seemed to seep into her
soul. She wanted to sympathize with the Forresters. After all, their only
child had a terminal illness. But it
wasn't fair to keep him in her class. She had 18 other youngsters to teach,
and Jeremy was a distraction. Furthermore, he would never learn to read and
write. Why waste any more time trying?

As she pondered the situation, guilt washed over her. Here I am complaining
when my problems are nothing compared to that poor family, she thought.
Lord, please help me to be more patient with Jeremy. From that day on, she
tried hard to ignore Jeremy's noises and his blank stares. Then one day, he
limped to her desk, dragging his bad leg behind him.

"I love you, Miss Miller," he exclaimed, loud enough for the whole class to
hear. The other students snickered, and Doris' face turned red. She
stammered, "Wh-why that's very nice, Jeremy. N-now please take your seat."

Spring came, and the children talked excitedly about the coming of Easter.
Doris told them the story of Jesus, and then to emphasize the idea of new
life springing forth, she gave each of the children a large plastic egg.
"Now," she said to them, "I want you to take this home and bring it back
tomorrow with something inside that shows new life. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Miss Miller," the children responded enthusiastically- all except for
Jeremy. He listened intently; his eyes never left her face. He did not even
make his usual noises. Had he understood what she had said about Jesus'
death and resurrection? Did he understand the assignment? Perhaps she should
call his parents and explain the project to them.

That evening, Doris' kitchen sink stopped up. She called the landlord and
waited an hour for him to come by and unclog it. After that, she still had
to shop for groceries, iron a blouse, and prepare a vocabulary test for the
next day. She completely forgot about phoning Jeremy's parents.

The next morning, 19 children came to school, laughing and talking as they
placed their eggs in the large wicker basket on Miss Miller's desk. After
they completed their math lesson, it was time to open the eggs. In the first
egg, Doris found a flower. "Oh yes, a flower is certainly a sign of new
life," she said. "When plants peek through the ground, we know that spring
is here." A small girl in the first row waved her arm. "That's my egg, Miss
Miller," she called out. The next egg contained a plastic butterfly, which
looked very real. Doris held it up. "We all know that a caterpillar changes
and grows into a beautiful butterfly. Yes, that's new life, too." Little
Judy smiled proudly and said, "Miss Miller, that one is mine." Next, Doris
found a rock with moss on it. She explained that moss, too, showed life.
Billy spoke up from the back of the classroom, "My daddy helped me," he
beamed.

Then Doris opened the fourth egg. She gasped. The egg was empty. Surely it
must be Jeremy's she thought, and of course, he did not understand her
instructions. If only she had not forgotten to phone his parents. Because
she did not want to embarrass him, she quietly set the egg aside and reached
for another. Suddenly, Jeremy spoke up. "Miss Miller, aren't you going to
talk about my egg?" Flustered, Doris replied, "But Jeremy, your egg is
empty." He looked into her eyes and said softly, "Yes, but Jesus' tomb was
empty, too."

Time stopped. When she could speak again, Doris asked him, "Do you know why
the tomb was empty?" "Oh, yes," Jeremy said, "Jesus was killed and put in
there. Then His Father raised Him up."

The recess bell rang. While the children excitedly ran out to the school
yard, Doris cried. The cold inside her melted completely away.

Three months later, Jeremy died. Those who paid their respects at the
mortuary were surprised to see 19 eggs on top of his casket, all of them
empty.

I just heard that Jim Harmon, the writer/editor of the "It's That Time Again" series of short stories dealing with characters from old time radio, has passed away. Mr. Harmon was the first person to buy a story of mine and published it in that series. He exchanged some e-mails with me and he seemed like a very kind man. I even learned a few literary devices from him. His last e-mail was to congratulate me on on the release of my book "Dinky the Elf" but how he may not be able to get a copy. Now I wish I had sent him a copy. Mr. Harmon was a huge fan of OTR, movies, comic books and more. He tried to encourge all writers and he will be missed.

At the University of Chicago Divinity School each year they have what is called "Baptist Day." On this day each one is to bring a lunch to be eaten outdoors in a grassy picnic area. Every "Baptist Day" the school would invite one of the greatest minds to lecture in the theological education center. .One year they invited Dr. Paul Tillich. Dr.Tillich spoke for two and one-half hours proving that the resurrection of Jesus was false. He quoted scholar after scholar and book after
book. He concluded that since there was no such thing as the historical
resurrection the religious tradition of the church was groundless, emotional
mumbo-jumbo, because it was based on a relationship with a risen Jesus, who, in
fact never rose from the dead in any literal sense. He then asked if there were
any questions. After about 30 seconds, an old, dark skinned preacher with a head
of short-cropped, woolly white hair stood up in the back of the auditorium.
"Docta Tillich, I got one question," he said as all eyes turned toward him. He
reached into his sack lunch and pulled out an apple and began eating it. "Docta
Tillich.. CRUNCH, MUNCH "My question is a simple question,... CRUNCH, MUNCH...
"Now, I ain't never read them books you read..CRUNCH, MUNCH.." and I can't
recite the Scriptures in the original Greek...CRUNCH, MUNCH ...." I don't know
nothin' about Niebuhr and Heidegger...CRUNCH, MUNCH... He finished the apple.
"All I wanna know is: This apple I just ate, . . . . . . was it bitter or sweet?
Dr Tillich paused for a moment and answered in exemplary scholarly fashion:
"I cannot possibly answer that question, for I haven't tasted your apple." The
white-haired preacher dropped the core of his apple into his crumpled paper bag,
looked up at Dr. Tillich and said calmly, "Neither have you tasted my Jesus."
The 1,000 plus in attendance could not contain themselves. The group erupted with applause and cheers.
Have you tasted Jesus? Jesus has risen... and He's coming back one day... "Taste
and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him. If you have, rejoice in the hope of the resurrection that your faith in Him brings."

Psalm 34:8!

The Watchmen

For those of you that look at my other blogs it comes as no surprise that I am a comic book fan. So with many of them that have been made into movies I have been going to the theaters more often then I had been in recent years. One that I thought would never be made was the Watchmen. I read the graphic novel when it came out over 20 years ago. Back then I was a Christian, as I still am, but some of what I read I didnt think about too much.
When the movie was released I decided to not see it as it was rated "R" and I try not to see movies with that rating. The rating didn't surprise me as one character, Dr. Manhattan, in the story is naked most of the time. I dedided to re-read the novel. When I did things hit me that I had over looked before or forgot about. There was open discussion about homosexuality. The main plot revolved around a murder mystery that is connected to World War III.
It seems that the superhero the Comedian, the perfect fighting man, discovered that former superhero, Ozymandias, who is the smartest man in the world and one of the richest, decideds that WWIII is on the horizion with America and Russia. He fakes an alien invasion in New York City, that kills half the city's population. He hopes this will unite the nations against a perceived common enemy. He also reveals that he had killed The Comedian and others to acheive his end of bringing his own strange peace to the world. He even went so far as to arrange an attempt on his life to direct attention away from himself as a suspect for murdering the Comedian. His assistant was killed and he then killed the killer that he hired and made it seem like self defense.

The problem with this is that it works. Now our heroes, Silk Spectre, Doctor Manhattan, Nite Owl, and Rorschach, realize if they tell the world things will get worse. In failing to save the world it brought the world a facade of peace. All but Rorschach agree to keep quiet. When he leaves to tell the truth and get some justice Dr. Manhattan kills him. However, there is a chance that the truth will get out. Earlier Rorschach mailed a diary that he had been keeping on this adventure. It arrives at the offices of a magazine that he always read. The editor of that magazine has to pull a two column article. He ask an assistant to find some filler material for the spot. On the last frame we see the hand of the assistant reaching into the mail pile and next to his hand is Rorschach's diary.

When I re-read this story I couldn't help but wish that certain politican who is also a comic book fan didn't read this back in the eighties and take it seriously. Well anyone for that matter.

23: And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
24: But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
25: But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
26: And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

1.When the morning was come , all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death :
2.And when they had bound him, they led him away , and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
3.Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned , repented himself , and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4.Saying , I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said , What is that to us? see thou to that.
5.And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed , and went and hanged himself .
6.And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said , It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

62.Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
63.Saying , Sir, we remember that that deceiver said , while he was yet alive , After three days I will rise again .
64.Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away , and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
65.Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way , make it as sure as ye can .
66.So they went , and made the sepulchre sure , sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
