Countdown to Christmas: Classics Illustrated #53and Marvel and Chick Versions of A Christmas Carol

Today I am showcasing two versions of A Christmas Carol. First is by Classics Illustrated. Of course it is the one company that you expect to put out a version of this classic tale. Second the unexpected company is Marvel.

For a couple of times since I have been reading comic books Marvel has tried to do what Classics Illiustrated did by turning classic literature into comic books. There best attempt was in the 70's and this version of A Christmas Carol is from that era.

I just came across this version of A Christmas Carol and thought I would share it here with you.

I read the Marvel version of A Christmas Carol as a kid and pretty much read it every Christmas for about four or five years - I adored it.

The little Chick interpretation is one of the few of his books that don't leave you feeling utterly forlorn. Still, a little like a car crash, Chick is always oddly fascinating.

Those Chick books are great but some you need to have been a Christian for a while to understand. Think about when you were a kid if someone gave you a book to read but never taught you your ABC's. You wouldn't be able to understand the book even if you could figure out how to read it. Tracts like Humbug are ones that non-Christian or a new Christian need to read first.
